| As Israeli democracy confronts its greatest threat yet, an investigation led by Haaretz, TheMarker and Radio France exposes clandestine attacks disrupting democratic processes across the globe. The proprietors of this international chaos machine, as uncovered in the course of the investigation, are Israeli brothers Tal and Zohar Hanan, who live and work in the Israeli commuter city of Modi’in. Want to throw a democratic election? Smear a political or business rival? Inflate cryptocurrencies? This firm offers a one-stop shop for hacking for hire, digital spying, media and election manipulation tools and a fake Facebook accounts factory. They are Cambridge Analytica’s “Israeli hackers.” They boast of interfering in 33 elections worldwide, from California to Kenya. Without morals, qualms or borders, their toolbox is available to anyone ready to pay for it – even if that results in an immediate danger to life, or the destabilization of democracies. The company boss calls it “electronic warfare.” For nine months, dozens of journalists in Israel, the U.S., France, Kenya, Indonesia, Germany, Tanzania and Spain investigated the claims made by “Team Jorge,” as the company calls itself. Shockingly, many were corroborated.
