Will Michigan replace Iowa in the Democratic Party’s presidential calendar?

The Hill has a story on the effort of three midwestern states–Michigan, Minnesota, and Illinois–to be among the first in the revamped schedule for the Democratic Party’s presidential primaries in 2024. With the goal of putting an Electoral College swing state early in the schedule, Michigan would seemed to be best positioned of these three states, with Illinois distinctly in last place. Minnesota appears moving towards Michigan’s swing state status, but isn’t quite as pivotal yet.

The DNC will choose among 17 states which get the early slots, but observers think Iowa is the most vulnerable of the current first four state, and the thought is to replace it with another midwestern state.
