Ca. Gov Still Ties Term Limits Reform to Redistricting Reform in California

Dan Walters:

Schwarzenegger reiterated Thursday that he won’t back relaxation of term limits unless legislators agree to reform the decennial redrawing of legislative and congressional districts, shifting redistricting power from the Legislature to an independent commission, and place fundraising reform on the same ballot. Nunez, Perata and other lawmakers may be willing to do that — or at least they say they are — but Democratic Party factions, such as unions, don’t want it, nor does the state’s Democratic congressional delegation, including the aforementioned Pelosi. They don’t want the political insecurity that an independent redistricting might create but do want the ability to shift some California seats to the Democratic column if Pelosi needs them to maintain her House majority in 2012.”
