This oped in the Sacramento Bee begins: “The bill to move next year’s California presidential primary to Feb. 5 reminds me of selling mattresses. I’ve never sold them, but my college roommate did, and I learned a lot from him about getting customers in the door and then switching them to a more costly product.” Another snippet: “Lurking behind the primary bill is the politicians’ version of a better mattress. This one is an initiative that would modify term limits. If the voters approve it in the Feb. 5 primary, termed-out legislators would be able to run in the legislative primary, which will be held in June, and keep their seats if they also win the general election.” Redistricting reform is in the mix too.
