Recount Changes Result of Vermont Auditor’s Race

The AP has this report and EL@M this post on the Vermont auditor’s race. Incumbent Auditor Randy Brock was ahead of Democrat Thomas M. Salmon by 137 votes of over 250,000 cast on Election Day but, after the recount concluded Monday, Salmon leads by 104 votes. Washington County Superior Court Judge Mary Miles Teachout must still certify the recount, which won’t happen before Thursday. A number of ballots have been challenged, and it’s possible that the result could still change. If Salmon does indeed remain in the lead, it will reportedly be the first time in Vermont history that a recount has overturned a certified election result.
