See this report on the expected nomination of Rosemary Rodriguez. I am very concerned that the new Republican nominee, Carolyn Hunter, could bring too much of a background in partisan politics to the office.
I don’t know anything yet about Ms. Rodriguez, but I certainly want to learn more about this fact listed in the article: “It was Rodriguez who in 2005 championed the idea to scrap the Denver’s election commission in favor of a single elected clerk and recorder system that would closer resemble the structure of 62 of the 63 other counties in Colorado.” Does anyone know the makeup of the old commission, and whether the change to this new system was responsible at all for Denver’s extensive problems this past election day? UPDATE: It appears these changes were not put into effect but are still under consideration. For more on the problems in Denver, and Colorado more generally, see this AP report.
