“Court says Spanish not necessary for petitions; Ruling clears way for two land-use ballot measures”

The Monterey Herald offers this report on yesterday’s en banc Ninth Circuit opinion in Padilla v. Lever, and what it means for the two Monterey ballot measures that got caught up in the Padilla controversy. The county apparently wants to still fight this, which will be a losing battle but could serve the strategic purpose of preventing a vote on these measures in November. My earlier coverage of the ruling is here. I’m scheduled to be on KPCC’s Airtalk at 10:30 pst talking about the Padilla case. Last week I was on the show (archive) talking about voter id laws.
