Senate Passes Voting Rights Act Renewal–H.R. 9 98-0; Goes to President for Signature

I understand that the Senate Judiciary Committee will issue a report later. UPDATE: Roll Call reports: “President Bush is expected to sign the measure, although the White House press office said no official ceremony had been scheduled as of Thursday afternoon.” During his speech to the NAACP this morning, President Bush said: “I thank the members of the House of Representatives for re-authorizing the Voting Rights Act. Soon the Senate will take up the legislation. I look forward to the Senate passing this bill promptly without amendment — (applause) — so I can sign it into law. (Applause.)”
