Thanks for the Compliment, But…

A blog item at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on today’s Pa. voter id decision links to my earlier post and describes me as “the California-Irvine law prof whose book ‘The Voting Wars‘ is the Bible for voter ID opponents.”

Actually, some voter id opponents have argued that my book creates a false equivalence between bogus Republican claims of voter impersonation fraud and exaggerated Democratic claims of the extent to which voter i.d. laws are likely to cause a decline in Democratic turnout.  They also don’t like my proposal to marry universal voter id conducted by the government with a national voter id card with an optional thumbprint.

The fact that I’ve managed to annoy both the left and right on voter id makes me think I’ve likely done something right.
