Dept. of Really Big Other Shoe(s) Dropping

In Iowa Right to Life, Inc., v. Miller, filed yesterday, Jim Bopp challenges a host of Citizens United-related legislation in Iowa. On the list: the state requirement that corporations (among others) register and report as PACs if they spend past a certain threshold on independent expenditures, disclosure rules for those expenditures, and rules prohibiting contributions from corporations to candidates. The suit also challenges Iowa’s new requirement that corporations annually seek express approval from their boards of directors before making independent expenditures (as a comparison, the federal Shareholder Protection Act would require both annual shareholder approval and per-expenditure board approval.)
Complaint and motion for preliminary injunction are here. This case will be one to watch very, very carefully.
