On October 23, 2025, Campaign Legal Center (CLC) sent a letter to Federal Election Commission (FEC) Commissioners Shana Broussard and Dara Lindenbaum urging them to hold former Rep. George Santos accountable for his brazen, admitted violations of federal campaign finance laws — particularly since President Donald Trump’s commutation of Santos’ criminal sentence set him free after serving just three months of a seven-year prison sentence, and with no obligation to pay the court-ordered restitution of over $370,000 to the victims of his fraud scheme. As CLC’s letter emphasizes, the FEC has independent civil enforcement authority to pursue violations of federal campaign laws
