“Plugging in a Monopoly”

George Skelton’s LA Times column begins: “The most important thing to know about Proposition 16 on California’s June ballot is that it was written and bankrolled by Pacific Gas & Electric Co. for the benefit of PG&E.” It also includes the following tidbit: “As of March 1, the Prop. 16 campaign had raised $28.5 million, every cent from PG&E. The coalition of opponents had raised less than $32,000.”
I find the latter sentence particularly interesting, as I have been bombarded with mail and advertising for Prop. 16 recently, and it all ends with “Paid for by Yes on 16/Californians to Protect Our Right to Vote, major funding from Pacific Gas and Electric Company, a coalition of taxpayers, business and labor.”
What’s up with the “coalition of taxpayers, business and labor”? How can they say that? Calling Bob Stern.
