“FEC Releases Rulemaking Schedule But Commissioners Argue Over Specifics”

BNA ($) says all is still not rosy at the FEC: “Democratic Commissioner Ellen Weintraub protested that one of proposed rulemaking items was not required by court decisions. The item Weintraub objected to involves limits on political party spending that is coordinated with candidates. Weintraub traded verbal jabs with Republican FEC Commissioner Caroline Hunter, who indicated that both Republican and Democratic Party committees have voiced support for loosening current FEC restrictions on what a party can spend in coordination with its candidates. FEC Chairman Matthew Petersen, a Republican, also noted that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit is considering a GOP-backed case that could lift the party coordinated spending limits.”
