Ballot Access for Nader

The Wall Street Journal offers Nader Off to Rocky Start; As Deadlines Loom, Confusion, Limited Funds Dog Campaign. A snippet:

Mr. Nader needs to begin supplying answers fast, because Pennsylvania’s deadline isn’t the only one drawing closer. By July 26, he’ll need 10,000 valid signatures in Missouri; by Aug. 24, he’ll need 15,306 in Oregon; and by Sept. 7, he’ll need 14,527 in New Mexico. In the meantime, Nader volunteers say their efforts are plagued by the campaign’s disorganization and difficulty mobilizing the political left.
If he had a fat campaign treasury — say, $20 million or so — Mr. Nader could hire enough paid signature gatherers and technical experts to easily clear the hurdles of the 35 states with tough ballot requirements, says Nathaniel Persily, an election-law expert at the University of Pennsylvania.
