Wealthy individuals, whether liberal or conservative, can give money to 501(c)(3)s, (c)(4)s, PACs, superPACs, political parties, candidate campaigns, etc. The web of various donations can sometimes be difficult to disentangle, and some entanglements can violate the law. This is very hard to regulate under the best of circumstances, and the current circumstances regarding the state of campaign finance regulation are not the best.
