“Lawmakers Confront a Rise in Threats and Intimidation, and Fear Worse”

New York Times:

Lawmakers face increasing threats as our politics have become more polarized and more dangerous, especially in the wake of January 6th. A number of representatives, who span the ideological spectrum, have fallen victim to in-person intimidation and vandalism of their homes. In fact, the number of recorded threats has increased tenfold since 2016, yet few of these incidents lead to an arrest. The potential for violence has led many representatives to expend personal and campaign funds on increased security detail, and the Capitol Police have also invested more resources in protecting members from these increasing threats, which show no signs of diminishing.
