Release:
Today the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law published a pair of analyses tracing post-2020 paths of the misinformation and conspiracy theories spread by the former president and his allies about voting and the 2020 election.
One analysis looks at the many lawsuits filed by the Trump campaign and its allies before and after the 2020 election. Its authors compile evidence that the false claims in those suits didn’t die with the litigation but rather became the foundations of new state legislation in 2021 to restrict the vote and increase partisan control over elections.
The second analysis reviews the public comments made by sponsors and supporters of anti-voter legislation in 2021, finding misinformation and conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.
Both analyses provide in-depth looks at Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
