The backlash within Ohio’s political left was swift after a major voting-rights group announced this week it had dropped its attempt to block a new Republican-drawn congressional map from taking effect in 2022.
The ACLU of Ohio, representing a coalition of voting-rights groups, cited the time litigation has taken, including what it said was intentional foot-dragging by state Republicans, in its decision. In a news release, the groups said they instead would focus on the 2024 election.
“Not the people to get in a foxhole with,” Chris Redfern, a former Ohio Democratic Party chairman, said in one representative Twitter post that captured the mood from Democrats.
