“Trump will keep trying to to overturn the 2020 election ‘until we get the correct result,’ spokeswoman says”

Insider:

Former President Donald Trump and his allies will keep trying to overturn the 2020 election “until we get the correct result,” his spokeswoman has said.

Liz Harrington made the comment during an episode of Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast released Tuesday, after Trump’s former chief strategist asked about ongoing efforts to decertify the election.

“This is not going away and it is never going to go away until we get the correct result and fix our elections, it’s just that simple,” Harrington said.

“We still are getting more information about how fraudulent these elections were.”

Trump and his allies have long falsely maintained that the 2020 election was stolen from him, and that fraudulent ballots unfairly swung the vote in President Joe Biden’s favor.

There is no evidence to suggest the election was stolen. Regardless, the Trump camp has launched a number of legal challenges to the election result, which have so-far largely failed.

Now, Trump and his supporters are now focussed on decertifying the election result, something which is currently impossible in practice. There is no legal process in the US to decertify an election once a president has been sworn into office.

“The only means of removing a president is through the impeachment process or 25th amendment process set forth in the Constitution, and none of those measures lead to a decertification or to a re-vote,” Richard Hasen, the co-director of the Fair Elections and Free Speech Center, told Agence France-Presse last year.
