Over the course of the past two years, Beijing has harshly imposed its will on Hong Kong, adopting a National Security Law in 2020 that has been used ever since to crush protest, debate, and independent media. The next Hong Kong legislative elections, scheduled for December 19th, will thus be taking place in a new environment of repression.
