- It seems that in Missouri, the legislature has passed a proposed constitutional amendment to prevent transformation of the institution of marriage by allowing members of the sex to be married to each other. The Democratic governor, hoping to prevent a boost to Republican turnout in November, would like to call a special election, but his deadline for doing so is next Tuesday. The legislative leadership, apparently very busy on other things, has not gotten around to officially certifying the resolution to put the amendment to a vote.
The attorney general, also a Democrat, failed to get a lower court judge to require the Secretary of State to set an election date. The attorney general is now seeking relief from the state supreme court. Here is an article on this from today’s Columbia Daily Tribune.
