Just How Tangential is the U.S. Election Assistance Commission?

We have seen many news stories and editorials about how terrible it has been not to have a functioning Federal Election Commission as we entered into a presidential election year. Yet in all the coverage of the FEC, I have not seen one mention of the fact that Caroline Hunter, who was confirmed last night to sit on the FEC, currently sits on the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, and that her confirmation to the FEC will leave a vacancy at the U.S. EAC in the middle of an election year.
If the EAC’s role in U.S. election administration was what it should be, this would be cause for great concern. But the only stories about the EAC these days are about its problems. How disappointing.
