Vintage Vadum

Via Dangerous Minds, comes this 2008 Daily Show interview with Matthew Vadum, in which he says : “[The job of] Community organizer can also lead to a very rewarding career in crack cocaine trafficking….Oh yes.  It is a straight line from community organizing to crack cocaine dealer.  Community organizers use crack cocaine in exchange for votes.”

In The Voting Wars, I explore the origin of the “crack for vote” argument, which is still commonly made by the Fraudulent Fraud Squad, to a single case in the 2004 election in Ohio involving one person, Chad Staton, who was caught and pled guilty to 10 counts of voter registration fraud. He said he was paid by someone in crack cocaine to collect voter registration cards.  The alleged offeror of the drugs died shortly after Staton was arrested. There is no evidence that Dick Tracy or any of Staton’s other “registrants” tried to cast a vote in any election.

I searched and searched for other evidence of a crack cocaine-voter registration connection, and I found nothing at all.

Since my post on Thursday, Vadum has gotten a lot of attention.  Dangerous Minds seems correct that Vadum is a bit thin-skinned.
