“Iowa Supreme Court dismisses state senator’s defamation suit”

The Des Moines Register reports.

You can find the opinion of the court here. As with many cases brought by candidates involving defamation in campaign advertising, the case fails upon proof of “actual malice” (proof that the person making the statement knew it was false or acted in reckless disregard of its truth or falsity)—-a constitutionally required standard for speech made about public figures.
