“Political Party Donations Capped in San Diego”

San Diego Union Tribune:

The unfettered ability of political parties to give campaign cash directly to city candidates will soon be reined in as San Diego leaders voted Tuesday to impose a cap on such contributions.

The limits on parties would be $10,000 for City Council candidates and $20,000 for citywide candidates beginning July 20 when the ordinance goes into effect. Until then parties can continue to give unlimited sums to candidates as they’ve been able to do for three years after a judge tossed out a citywide ban.

I testified today at the City Council hearing as an expert for the City, and was co-counsel in earlier litigation over the city’s campaign contribution laws.
