Larry Lessig Calls for Amending the Constitution to Provide for Campaign Finance Vouchers

Larry Lessig’s contribution to Slate’s “Hive,” How to Fix the Constitution.

The amendment builds on the ideas on Larry’s book, “Republic, Lost,” which I am reviewing (along with a review of Jack Abramoff’s new book, Capitol Punishment”) for the Harvard Law Review.  (Draft of my review is here.)

Lessig’s book called for campaign finance vouchers (an idea I have supported since writing about them in 1996).  In his book, vouchers would supplement, not supplant, private giving.  I the Slate iteration, individuals are limited to $100 contributions to candidates.  But Larry also wants to incorporate Larry Tribe’s proposed amendment to the Constitution, which would presumably allow limiting contributions to Super PACs too.
