Atlanta-area prosecutor Fani Willis defended her investigation of Donald Trump, urging a judge to reject the former president’s request to disqualify her from further probing efforts to overturn the November 2020 presidential election.

In a legal brief submitted on Monday, Ms. Willis, a Democrat, said there was no basis in Georgia law for Mr. Trump’s request to have her blocked from continuing her investigation. 

Ms. Willis’s brief was in response to Mr. Trump’s motion, in which he asked the court to scrap the criminal investigation. In the same March motion, Mr. Trump’s lawyers asked a judge to throw out all work done by a special grand jury convened by Ms. Willis last year to investigate possible election interference.
