ELB Litigation Watch

Here are some court matters we are waiting on in the nearish future:

An opinion from the D.C. Court considering preclearance of Texas’s redistricting

A decision whether the Supreme Court will summarily reverse or set for argument the Montana sequel to Citizens United (we may hear as early as Monday, June 18)

Further action in the van Hollen case—either a stay request to the Supreme Court and/or follow on litigation from Democracy 21 to go after holes in the laws governing disclosure of independent expenditures

More rulings in cases involving Florida’s new voting laws, as well as voter i.d. laws/proposals in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin

A cert petition in the Shelby County case challenging the constitutionality of Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act

An appeal in the Hunter litigation in the 6th Circuit, which could prove very important if there is a dispute over provisional ballots in Ohio during the 2012 presidential election
