“FEC Deadlocks on Advisory Ruling to Allow Corporate PAC to Take Unlimited Donations”

Bloomberg BNA:“The Federal Election Commission deadlocked March 1 on an advisory opinion request asking whether a corporate political action committee may solicit unlimited contributions to pay for independent campaign expenditures. The FEC’s three Republican commissioners supported the plan in the advisory request (AO 2012-01) advanced by a nonprofit corporation, known as Stop This Insanity Inc. (STI) and its sponsored PAC, known as the Employee Leadership Fund (ELF). The FEC Republicans voted for a draft ruling that would allow the corporate PAC to collect unlimited funds from various sources for independent spending on federal campaigns. The FEC’s three Democratic commissioners supported an alternative draft denying the STI request.”
