Campaign finance ripples in the courts

In Jim Bopp's latest, a Washington federal court following Citizens United and SpeechNow.org struck down state contribution limits to a PAC planning expenditures on a ballot measure, and upheld the state's disclosure law.

Down the coast, a California federal court preliminarily upheld San Diego's new $1,000 limits on contributions from parties to candidates, after striking down a complete ban earlier in the year. A different portion of the San Diego case is up on appeal before the Ninth Circuit, with argument scheduled for October 4. (Disclosure: Rick will be arguing the case for the City of San Diego.)
