Isn't Bob Bauer Inadvertently Making the Argument for Regulating 527s as Political Committees?

See this interesting post on 527 ads run against Laffey in the Rhode Island Republican Senate race. (Polling shows, by the way, that the Democrats' best chance of taking the seat is for Laffey to win the primary, with one poll showing Laffey well ahead of incumbent Chafee.)
