Florida’s 13th, in Court and in Congress

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports here, the AP here on yesterday’s proceedings in Leon County Circuit Court, regarding the disputed race between Republican Vern Buchanan and Democrat Christine Jennings for Florida’s 13th Congressional District. The Herald-Tribune also has this report on Jennings’ plans to file a complaint with the House Administration Committee to contest the election.
Although Buchanan was declared the winner by a 369 vote margin, MIT’s Charles Stewart (an expert for Jennings) testified that she would have won by 3,100 if not for the “excessive” undervotes. Of the roughly 18,000 total undervotes, Stewart estimates that 14,000 exceeded what one would expect. Jennings is seeking access to the source code, which ES&S is resisting, as Roll Call reports here (subscription required). On the other hand, the Brandenton Herald reports here on the state’s test of a sample of the ES&S iVotronic machines, which found that they didn’t lose votes.
