The L.A. Times has this story, on the ongoing dispute regarding Florida’s 13th Congressional District, where Republican Vern Buchanan leads Democrat Christine Jennings by 369 votes. The story reports that: “Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi’s pledge to bring bipartisan peace to that most partisan of institutions — the House of Representatives — could be put to a test early in the new Congress by an election dispute in Florida.”
In other FL-13 news, the Ledger reports here on a study attributing the outcome to bad ballot design. The report was co-written by Dartmouth government professor Michael Herron, who’s reportedly been retained as an expert for ES&S, the vendor of the machines used in Sarasota County. Jennings’ lawyers seek access to the ES&S iVotronic’s source code, which ES&S is resisting on the ground that it’s a trade secret. See editorials from the Palm Beach Post and Sarasota Herald Tribune on that issue.
