Supreme Court Grants Cert in Arizona Campaign Finance Case

As I expected, the Supreme Court has granted cert in the McComish v. Bennett case, challenging the matching funds provision of Arizona’s campaign finance law. In a post yesterday at Loyola’s “Summary Judgments” blog, “The Big Campaign Finance Story of 2011: An Effective End to Public Financing,” I explained the issues in the case and its likely significance: “the Court is likely to take away one of the only tools available to drafters of public financing measures to make such financing attractive to candidates.”
SCOTUSblog says that the case will likely be argued in March, with a decision expected by the end of the term in early summer. For early coverage see AP, Bloomberg. More to come.
