Seventh Circuit Decides Important Judicial Code Case

In Siefert v. Alexander, the Seventh Circuit struck down a Wisconsin ban on state court judges announcing their political party affiliations. But the court upheld a ban on judges’ endorsing candidates in partisan elections in the state and on directly soliciting campaign contributions. Judge Rovner dissented on the endorsement issue, but her dissent was quite limited to the particular facts of the Wisconsin law.
