Wigglesworth Responds to Sager
Responding to the oped mentioned here, Ned Wigglesworth writes:
What Sager unsurprisingly leaves out of his story on Illinois is who gave money to Karmeier. Basically, as an appellate judge for the Fifth District, Karmeier’s opponent, Gordon Maag had upheld a multi-million judgment that State Farm was liable for using after-market parts in vehicle repairs. State Farm and its lawyers then gave $350,000 to Maag’s opponent, Karmeier, in the state supreme court race. Karmeier won. The State Farm case went to the supreme court, which ruled that Karmeier didn‘t have to recuse himself from ruling on the case.
Check out our blog on that supreme court ruling (link to a story) or our blog on the spending by outside groups in the Karmeier/Maag race.
Thanks for writing!
