The deadline for submissions to Common Cause’s Gerrymander Standard Competition is February 27. There are cash prizes of $5000 (1st place), $3000 (2nd), and $2000 (3rd). Papers should be 25-50 pages, double-spaced. More on the submission requirements here. Lawyers, students, and scholars in any field are welcome to submit papers.
Along with Norm Ornstein, I’m co-chairing the panel that will evaluate the papers, which also includes Jocelyn Benson, Guy Charles, Allison Hayward, and Derek Muller. We welcome all papers suggesting a new definition of partisan gerrymandering or further developing an existing definition.
So what have you got to lose? Finish that paper and submit it!
