Must Read CQ Cover Story on Voting Rights Act Case

It is behind the paywall here, but I will relink when it is freely available.  The writer, Amanda Becker, talks with Rep. Sensenbrenner over what would happen if the Court strikes down section 5 in the Shelby County case and how Congress might react.  She also recounts the behind-the-scenes fight in the Senate Judiciary Committee over the Committee report which suggested the Act is now unconstitutional.

Anyone wanting the full, fascinating story of the 2006 VRA Amendments must read Nate Persily’s Yale Law Journal piece on the topic, and Rick Pildes’s response.
