“FEC Deadlocks 3-3 on Ruling Whether Super PAC’s Ads Copied Campaign Ads”

Bloomberg BNA: “The Federal Election Commission deadlocked on an enforcement case involving charges that the Republican-leaning Super PAC American Crossroads illegally funded more than $450,000 in television ads that reproduced film footage from the campaign of Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), according to FEC documents released Feb. 27. Such disputes over what counts as republication of campaign materials could be increasingly significant as some big-spending Super PACs active in the 2012 presidential and congressional campaigns produce ads that echo the messages of candidates they support.”

The FEC? Still as good as dead.
