“Paul Schurick’s sentence in Ehrlich robocall case meant to send message, judge says”

WaPo: “Former Maryland governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.’s campaign manager was spared jail time Thursday for approving a controversial robocall to black voters, but he was sentenced to home detention, community service and a lengthy term of probation.”

And rather than appeal on First Amendment grounds, which is what I was expecting, Schurick offered an apology: “. He said he viewed his decision to approve the robocalls as a ‘profound personal failure.’ ‘It ended my career, it put my family through hell, but it was a mistake that I made, I accept responsibility for that….I’m here to apologize to every person, and every institution that I have offended.'”
