“Banned voting options popular; 234,000 absentee or early ballots that new law ends were cast in county in ’08”

A very interesting story from Ohio. The article answers a question I had about the referendum drive to reverse some of these new laws, being spearheaded by former Sec. of State Brunner: “If Brunner’s group collects enough signatures by Sept. 30, the election-law changes would be put on hold until voters decide whether to endorse or repeal them. Legislators approved the bill too late for a referendum this fall.”

That’s actually good news for opponents of the law: I believe this means that if the group collects enough signatures, the measures subject to a referendum vote would NOT be in place for the 2012 presidential election.

I may be wrong about that, so I’d be interested to hear from someone who knows more about Ohio referendum law. Would there be another election scheduled to vote on the referendum before the 2012 presidential election?
